Started with Daniel Hess in 2014, the PICTURE show was a 40-seat microcinema in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, dedicated to bringing short-form experimental film in dialogue with auteur narrative cinema.
We hosted a weekly film screening series, open calls for works, musical and visual performances, an impromptu marathon ‘anti-festival’ (of rejected filmmakers), cross-disciplinary evenings, as well as local filmmaker spotlights. We were a platform for artists to propose screenings and performances, and we also offered the space to filmmakers for feedback screenings and discussions.
The space was a passion project created with no business model in mind. We rented a storefront warehouse where we also lived and worked. We were driven by a DIY spirit to just make things happen. We closed our doors in 2015 to relocate to Richmond, Virginia.
