(2009—2010)

Retreat

2009, SD video, 7 minutes

A collage portrait of Amy Miller, who ran the Milarepa Tibetan Buddhist Center in Barnet, Vermont in 2009. The film is a kaleidoscope of images and sounds from a few days in the life of the center, with snippets of prayers and mediations given equal weight with the daily chatter and domestic activities of the communal household.

Soundtrack by Daniel Hess.

Luke Carsin

2010, SD video, 28 minutes

Part of the Lower East Side Biography Project, a film series intending to preserve, through documentary film, the oral history of New York’s Lower East Side arts scene of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, against the ‘cultural amnesia’ of gentrification.

Luke Carsin, a Jewish lesbian, car mechanic, social activist, and early gender pioneer, was a staunch supporter of the underground theater scene of the LES, including La MaMa, the Theater for the New City and P.S. 122. Featuring the last interview before her death,  the film weaves together her personal story with that of New York’s.
